Good character is often assumed as a prerequisite for ministry. Your character will be assessed by many along the way. Some will be assessing spiritual qualification for Biblical leadership. Some will be looking to protect the people under their authority.

Character is who you are when no one is looking. Character is the evidence of your life choices. Character will be revealed in your reaction to adverse circumstances and temptation. Who are you?

I have addressed choices indirectly in writing about the willing heart and fruitful lives, but I want to address character directly here. If you are looking for ways to please God and serve other people, your character matters. How is your good character?

Background checks, reference letters, application forms, and interviews will help governments and organizations discover a bit about who you have been, but only you and God know the reality of who you are and what you are allowing God to do in you.

The blood of Christ covers all sins. We are completely and forever accepted in Christ by grace through faith. Our position before our Holy God, our standing, is completely rooted in the character of Christ. He has promised. He will deliver. Salvation is about what He has done and will do because of His character; not our deeds.

Spiritual growth takes work and faith. To produce fruit that glorifies the Father, we must abide in Christ. There are things we must add, put off, and put on to represent Christ well and be effective.

Good character is about how you are allowing the Spirit of God to direct your thoughts, attitudes, and actions. Are you responding by faith in God's word to the promptings of the Holy Spirit as He works to conform your character to the image of Christ?

Discipleship is about teaching people to obey all that Christ commanded us. Walking in the Spirit is about abiding in Christ, depending on His Spirit to produce the fruit of the Spirit in us and through us as we listen and obey.

Are you growing in good character? Are you allowing someone to teach you?
